11th–20th April 2025 marks SIBA Indie Beer Week – a nationwide celebration of independent breweries like us, and the perfect excuse (as if you needed one) to enjoy a proper pint that’s brewed with passion, not profit margins.

At Hobsons, being independent isn’t a trend – it’s how we’ve done things from the very beginning. Tucked away in Cleobury Mortimer, we brew with wind power on our side and the River Rea running through our story. This Indie Beer Week, we’re raising a glass to what it means to stay true to your roots, brew with purpose, and keep things local, one pint at a time.

What is SIBA Indie Beer Week?

SIBA – the Society of Independent Brewers – has launched this week-long celebration to shout about the great beer, brilliant people, and buzzing communities that are built around independent breweries. It’s about putting local pints in the spotlight and reminding everyone that the best beer often comes from just down the road.

Here’s where it gets juicy… Not all beers that look local are truly independent.

That’s where the Brewery Checker comes in – a brilliant tool on the Indie Beer website that lets you search any brewery and find out whether it’s genuinely independent or secretly owned by a global giant like Heineken, Budweiser, Asahi or Molson Coors.

Since launch, over 52,000 searches have been made, with 28,000+ beer lovers now regularly using it to keep their beer choices honest. Think of it as a lie detector for your lager.

So before your next pint, give it a quick check. And if it’s indie? Even better if it’s Hobsons 😉
