A First for Hobsons: Celebrating Women in Brewing with Special Brew Day
There was a real buzz in the brewhouse on Tuesday 10th February as Hobsons hosted its very first Women’s Brew Day. Twenty women rolled up their sleeves and took over the brewhouse to craft a special cask beer to mark International Women’s Day.
The idea was led by six women from across the Hobsons team, all usually found in office-based roles. From concept and recipe to name and design, they created Six Sirens — a beer that celebrates collaboration, creativity and the growing presence of women in brewing. Keen to open the doors wider, they invited women from the local community to get fully involved in the process.
“It was a fantastic day of proper hands-on brewing — everyone got stuck in, from mashing in to learning about the hops and the science behind it all,” said Kate Pearce, Commercial Director. “Bringing women together in the brewhouse like this felt incredibly special. The atmosphere was brilliant, and it’s exactly the kind of initiative that shows brewing is for everyone.”
Six Sirens is a small-batch, 14-barrel brew made with Amarillo, Godiva and Boadicea hops. It’s a bright, blonde 4% beer bursting with vibrant orange citrus notes — refreshing, expressive and brewed with plenty of heart. Just 50 casks will be available from late February, arriving on bars ahead of International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March 2026.
The brew also supports a meaningful cause. A portion of proceeds will go to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund’s appeal for a new treatment centre in Telford, with hop supplier Charles Faram generously donating the hops.
To celebrate the launch, Hobsons will host a special Tap Room event on Friday 13th March (4pm - 9pm), featuring tastings, street food pairings and a talk from beer writer Laura Hadland.
