Dhustone Stout: A Representation of Hobsons’ Development as a Brewery
Dhustone Stout has been a much loved product since its introduction in 2015. Originally crafted as a cask offering, it quickly became a favourite, . Even today, we still receive requests for Dhustone in cask from publicans who know and love this timeless beer. Over the years, it has evolved, moving into bottles and now proudly into keg.
But why keg? Much like the addition of nitrogen to our Champion Mild, the keg format enhances Dhustone’s smooth and velvety texture, making it even more enjoyable. This innovation allows us to offer the same rich and creamy stout experience, but with a modern twist that suits a broader range of beer lovers and venues.
Originally known as Shropshire Stout, this beer was inspired by local folklore surrounding a mysterious big cat said to roam the Shropshire countryside. Its name later changed to Dhustone, a nod to the dark ‘Dhu stone’ of Titterstone Clee Hill—a carboniferous dolerite steeped in history and substance, much like the stout itself.
Dhustone Stout is a beer filled with pride, boasting underlying liquorice notes and a smooth, characterful profile. Rooted in local heritage, it has found new life in our keg range, making it an easy decision to include as part of our modern offering. Its inclusion has only deepened the variety and quality of the beers we provide, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation.
Whether enjoyed in a cosy pub, at one of our stockists, or at home in bottle, Dhustone Stout continues to delight with its local story, rich character, and in keg it's velvety texture. From cask to keg, its legacy lives on—and it perfectly represents the evolution of Hobsons Brewery.
