Hobsons Brewery Best Green Business SIBA Award Win
Since our humble beginnings in 1993 we have stood by an ethos of being a local sustainable brewery. We continually practice to brew the “green way” with a serious commitment to wind, sun and waste power generation. It’s not just a tag line, it’s a culture in the brewery to seek out innovative solutions, question our materials and processes, harness our environmental assets and routinely look to reduce waste. And it’s a team effort! Hobsons first won the Best Green Business Award back in 2010.
We were delighted to receive ‘Best Green Business’ at the SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) 2021 Business awards on Thursday 18th March 2021. The SIBA Business Awards are unique in being both free to enter and judged by a panel of independent beer industry experts, managed by not-for-profit trade association SIBA. The categories highlight the fantastic work being done to promote British independent craft beer, and are open for entry by businesses across the UK.
Usually, the winners are announced at the annual eagerly anticipated BeerX event as the ‘finale’; following a few days of various beer tastings, seminars and so on. This year, finalists were invited to join an evening Zoom that was live streamed to SIBA’s YouTube channel. It highlighted all the adaptations breweries and the hospitality industry have had to make this year, and made a great, covid-safe way to come together to celebrate the achievements.
SIBA commented: ‘The next award is for the ‘Best Green Business’ and the winner this year is Hobsons Brewery, who a decade after they last won this award have continued to lead the green revolution from the front and be a role model all breweries should look to.’
Nick Davis, Hobsons Brewery Founder said ‘After a difficult year for the hospitality and brewing industry it was brilliant to win Best Green Business at the SIBA Business Awards this year. As a brewery, we are always looking for ways to improve our sustainable practices, so the recognition from receiving this award means a lot to the whole team.’
Hobsons Brewery secured the award by committing themselves to brewing the green way. An onsite wind turbine, Windy Wendy, an integrated cask wash and filling system, spent grain conveyor and so much more reduces the breweries carbon footprint and water wastage. In addition, recyclable paper bottle labels and wooden pump clips have reduced their plastic use significantly and communicate this message to the end-drinker.
